Five Fun Ideas to Kick Off Your Wedding Day and Get Gorgeous Photos

Hey there lovebirds! So you’ve got the perfect dress, the perfect venue, and the perfect partner to spend the rest of your life with. But what about the perfect morning of your wedding day? You want to start your big day off right, with a relaxed and fun atmosphere that sets the tone for the day ahead. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of wedding mornings, and I’ve got some tried-and-true ideas for things you can do to make sure your photos are as gorgeous and memorable as your love story.

1. Pop a bottle of champagne (or prosecco, or whatever bubbles tickle your fancy)

Nothing says “we’re getting married today!” like a celebratory glass of something bubbly. It’s the perfect way to kick off the morning with a little bit of fun and frivolity. Plus, it makes for some great photo ops. Just make sure you pace yourselves – you don’t want to be tipsy before the ceremony even starts. Bonus points if you’re down to do a big pop and spray! Just remember to buy an extra bottle of the cheap stuff and ask me how to get the best spray.

    2. Get out in nature

If you’re lucky enough to live near the beach, the bush, or any other beautiful natural setting, take advantage of it on your wedding day. Go for a hike, take a dip in the ocean, go for a skate, or just sit and watch the sunrise. Being in nature can help you feel grounded and present, which is exactly what you want on such a special day. And of course, the scenery will make for some stunning photos.

    3. Have a dance party

Put on some of your favorite music and get your groove on. Whether you’re doing the robot or dropping it low to Pony, a little bit of movement and laughter will help shake off any nerves and get you feeling good. Plus, you’ll get some great photos of you and your crew cutting loose and having a blast.

    4. Smoke cigars (or don’t, if that’s not your thing)

For some grooms, smoking cigars is a tradition that goes back generations, a right of passage on the wedding day. If that’s the case for you, go ahead and light up – just make sure you do it in a well-ventilated area (we don’t want to set off any fire alarms!). And if cigars aren’t your thing, that’s totally fine too. The point is to do something that feels special and unique to you.

    5. Treat yourselves to a fancy breakfast

Whether you’re a fan of avocado toast or you prefer a classic eggs benedict, indulging in a delicious breakfast is a great way to start your wedding day. It’s a chance to sit down with your nearest and dearest and enjoy each other’s company before the chaos of the day really sets in. And of course, you’ll get some great photos of everyone digging into their plates.

There you have it – five ideas for things to do the morning of your wedding day that will help you relax, have fun, and get some gorgeous photos. Remember, this day is all about celebrating your love and commitment to each other, so do whatever feels right for you. And if you need a wedding photographer to capture all the magic, I’m here for you. Let’s make some memories!
